"QUALITY STUDIES for vulnerable groups in the territories of French West Indies and Saint-Laurent du Maroni, French Guiana."

Coordinator and partners

Qualitative studies completed the surveys, they were conducted by COIN, a Dominican NGOs and partner of PANCAP.

The association AIDES has been a partner in this project alongside the University Hospital of Pointe à Pitre.

The different parts of the project

COIN has allowed the development of qualitative research and the exploitation of their results. It has accompanied associations that participated in the development, implementation and execution of qualitative surveys in the French Antilles, in Saint Laurent du MARONI and in Saint-Martin.

This project has allowed the strengthening of the associations' capacity, thanks to training conducted by COIN with the method name "Participatory Community Diagnosis", and also training to" behavior change in matters of sexuality", and to the "implementation of projects". 10 associations of each of the three FODAs and one of Saint- Martin have benefited from this training in Guadeloupe and in St Domingue.

They were accompanied to identify, after analysis of the study results, issues, priorities, strategies to be implemented to address the problems encountered. A common associative proposal at the end of this training has been developed...

Future

The crossing of the results now allows the setting of appropriate prevention plans for each vulnerable group for the next 5 years.

The first projects meeting the priority needs identified in the surveys were presented as part of the extension of the INTERREG - HIV project and must be implemented and carried out before December 2015.

They are as follows:

  • ELABORATING AND DISTRIBUTING OF INFORMATION AND EDUCATIONAL TOOLS ADAPTED TO GROUPS IN GUADELOUPE FOR VULNERABLE GROUPS: MSM, MIGRANTS, CRACK USERS and SEX WORKERS.
  • TRAINING OF PEER EDUCATORS IN AIDS PREVENTION ASSOCIATIONS / ASSOCIATIONS FOR THE FIGHT AGAINST AIDS IN THE FODA.
  • SETTING UP A CAMPAIGN AGAINST STIGMATIZATION AND DISCRIMINATION IN COOPERATION WITH PARTNER NGOs AND INSTITUTIONS IN THE CARIBBEAN.
  • FORMALIZING A NETWORK OF TEENAGERS CONCERNED WITH THE HIV IN THE FODA AND ST MARTIN WITH HAITI, FROM A YOUTH FORUM IN ORDER TO HELP THEM BREAK WITH THEIR ISOLATION AND IMPROVE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE.
  • CREATING AND IMPLEMENTATING AN HIV / AIDS COLLABORATIVE NETWORK BETWEEN GUADELOUPE, HAITI AND DOMINICA.
