Implementing Medically Assisted Procreation (MAP) in viral context

Project management

This project is led by the University Hospital of Pointe-à-Pitre.

Centre Caribéen de Médecine de la Reproduction” (CCMR)

The Medically Assisted Procreation (MAP) in HIV, HBV, HCV viral context, is now in place and operational at the “Centre Caribéen de Médecine de la Reproduction” (CCMR) at the University Hospital of Pointe-à-Pitre thanks to INTERREG IV CARAÏBES program. MAP in viral context allows couples in which one of them is HIV, HBV or HCV positive, to be guaranteed of having a child without risks of contamination of his or her partner                   .

Setting up thanks to INTERREG Project

Today, this service is also available for all FODAs, St. Martin and the Caribbean countries. Hence, this new service in Guadeloupe significantly reduces inequalities related to distance and the overall cost of the procedure.

The project has enabled the expansion and development of the workplaces, the purchasing of equipment allowing MAP in viral context: a micro injection device  to do in-vitro fertilization with Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection  (ICSI) along with gamete and embryos storage tanks.

It has allowed the complete training of a technician to MAP technology in viral risk, finance a full-time technician, a quarter-time medical biologist, a half-time additional secretary and a half-time psychologist.

Couples already received
So far 13 couples were taken in charge: 4 for HIV and 9 for HBV / HCV.

Perspectives:

- The CCMR will have to increase, in a short run, the number of couples with divergent serology for HIV, HBV and HCV

- The CCMR will allow the management of foreign Caribbean couples and with the INTERREG IV CARIBBEAN’s team facilitate the development of all structural and financial resources to enable the reception of foreign Caribbean couples with Caribbean countries.

- The CCMR through INTERREG IV CARIBBEAN’s team will develop information on this opportunity to support MAP from other Caribbean countries.

- The CCMR, via the INTERREG IV CARIBBEAN team, will acquire already newer MAP materials (embryoscopes, cross match identifications) to ensure the best care for serodiscordant couples.
